چکیده
Methods. One hundred and sixty-four children (ASA I or II) aged 3 months–6 yr were randomly allocated to receive 1 ml kg of levobupivacaine 0.15% with 0.5 mg kg S(þ)-ketamine (Group 1), levobupivacaine 0.175% with 0.5 mg kg S(þ)-ketamine (Group 2), or levobupivacaine 0.2% (Group 3) by the caudal route. Pain, motor block, sedation, and requirement for postoperative analgesia were assessed up to 6 h after operation.

Ketamine and levobupivacaine versus levobupivacaine alone for post operative analgesia and side effects in lower abdominal surgeries in children – A comparative study
Background: Different additive drugs such as opioids, epinephrine, clonidine, and neostigmine have been used along with local anaesthetics to improve the duration and quality of analgesia. Few studies have demonstrated the increase of efficacy in various aspects after combining dexmedetomidine and ropivacaine and dexmedetomidine to caudal bupivacaine in pediatric major abdominal cancer surgerie...
متن کاملThe assessment of bupivacaine-tramadol and levobupivacaine-tramadol combinations for preemptive caudal anaesthesia in children: a randomized, double-blind, prospective study.
Caudal block is the regional anesthetic technique that is used most frequently in pediatric surgery and bupivacaine and levobupivacaine are widely utilized in this technique. Opioid drugs have been added to local anesthetic solutions to prolong duration of analgesia but ideal combination were not found. We compared the postoperative analgesic efficacy of equal concentrations of bupivacaine or l...
متن کاملKetamine for perioperative pain management in children: a meta-analysis of published studies.
INTRODUCTION Balanced analgesia, using both opioid and nonopioids agents, has become the standard care for postoperative pain management. Ketamine, a compound with analgesic and antihyperalgesic properties, has been shown to decrease postoperative pain and opioid requirements in adults. The goal of the present meta-analysis was to investigate postoperative analgesic properties of ketamine in pe...
متن کاملKetamine for caudal analgesia in children: comparison with caudal bupivacaine.
Fifty children undergoing inguinal herniotomy were allocated randomly to three groups to receive a caudal injection of either 0.25% bupivacaine 1 ml kg-1 with or without ketamine 0.5 mg kg-1 or ketamine 0.5 mg kg-1 with normal saline 1 ml kg-1. There was no significant difference in quality of pain relief, postoperative behaviour or analgesic requirements between the ketamine group and the two ...
متن کاملCaudal Additives Do Not Improve the Analgesia Afforded by Levobupivacaine After Hypospadias Repair
BACKGROUND Caudal analgesia is commonly employed to provide excellent intra- and postoperative analgesia for primary hypospadias repair in children. Several additives to local anesthetics are commonly employed to increase the block duration, although these have uncertain benefits. OBJECTIVES This study investigated whether, in caudal analgesia with levobupivacaine 0.25%, the addition of S (+)...
